The SQL command option that is offered as a data-access mode must contain a valid SQL statement to select the columns that serve as the destination in the Excel file. Figure 11-9 shows how I ve used the Query Builder to generate the query. I selected Add Table on the Query Builder screen to add the possible Excel document contents to the upper window. From there it was a simple task to select the columns I wished to use as the destination.

The only obvious difference in the statement from the usual SQL format is the use of [Sheet2$] in the FROM clause. (Obviously, if the worksheet had a different name, that would be used here instead.) Once the destination has been fully configured, you can perform the mappings by moving to the next section on the editor screen. This is shown in Figure 11-10. The component attempts to perform column mapping between the input and destination columns where possible, based upon column name. You can map additional columns by dragging a column from the Input Column collection to the Destination Column collection. If the destination columns data types haven t been set in the Excel document already, you can set them by using the advanced editor for this task. Selecting the Input and Output Properties tab yields the screen shown in Figure 11-11.

NOTE: The Port Scan option in Network Utility uses the stroke command, located in /Applications/Utilities/Network Utility.app/Contents/Resources. You can use stroke directly rather than relying on the graphical application, which is much faster.

You can drill down to the month and then to the actual admission day if you choose to do so. However, you now know that you are indeed getting data from the cube, so it is time to move on to SSRS and create the report you will deploy to the portal.

By expanding out the Excel Destination Input tree on the left side and viewing each of the values under External Columns, you can easily set the data type for each of the columns from the Data Type Properties window.

Summary

Now that you have determined that the Patient Referral cube is working as it should, the next step is to create an SSRS report. In the Pro_SSRS project, you will find two completed reports, the Average Referral to Admission report and the Referral to Admission Chart report, that are both based on the Patient Referral cube. We will not go through the procedure of building these reports step by step; however, we will demonstrate the following through the Average Referral to Admission report: Setting up a data source to use Analysis Services Using the graphical MDX query builder that is new to SSRS for SQL Server 2005

1 input The Flat File Destination component writes data out to a text file in one of the standard flat-file formats: delimited, fixed width, fixed width with row delimiter, or ragged right. With the Pro_SSRS project open, navigate to the Reports folder, and open the Average Referrals to Admission report. Next, click the Data tab. In the Dataset list at the upper-left corner of the Data tab, notice that there are two datasets for this report, Patient_Referral and DateofAdmissionYear, as shown in Figure 10-12.
